Get in the store instead of online August 30, 2010 vish I bought this bike to commute to work everymorning. My idea was to get somthing that I could use for work and on bike trails and this was perfect for me.
The bike came packaged and nicely tucked in one box. Very secure packing.
This bike doesnt come with any tools. So YOU NEED to buy a schwinn bike tool which i Got it from Target for 10bucks.
The Good's. bike is sturdy and good braking system. Very comfortable and easy to ride
The Bad's and Ugly's - Within the first one week , i had to take this bike to bikestore to get the breaks and nuts tightened.
A week later i took it back again and was told that out of the 7 speed gear cog wheel assembly, one of the cog wheels broke off and so it needed to be replaced.
I called Schwinn support and got a FREE replacement. They do not pay for the LABOR COSTS. So all the service is at ur expense.
If i purchased the same bike from a store, i would have got a free service/tuneup and labor for lifetime( atleast this is the case with the bike store near my place).
I got the gear systems fixed and the bike works perfectly. A descent bike for the price range
Great Bike, 25y/o Looking To Ride Casually August 23, 2010 P. Sorornejad My girlfriend and I were looking to purchase a pair of bikes to start riding around town casually for some excersize. After looking at a few stores like Walmart and Target, I knew that if I ended up buying a bike, I should make sure to get one that was built to last.
I had a chat with one of my friends who worked in a bike shop, and asked him for some advice. Of course, not knowing much about bikes, I already had a list of bikes that I was looking at. Each of the bikes I had listed had "the works" with dual suspension and a high number of gears, all for around 300 which I thought was a great price. After sitting with him for a bit and talking, he made me realize that things like "dual suspension" on bikes really arent worth it unless you are willing to spend a ton of money for a professionally tuned bike. If you are looking to save money, and end up with a decent bike, a hard tail is the way to go.
Assembly was no issue whatsoever. The bike already comes fully assembled, all you need to do is pop on the handlebars and the front wheel as well as the pedals. The wheels are already mounted with the tires and the brakes and such are already assembled.
One thing that should always be remembered when buying a bike, is that it may need to be tuned. I looked at a couple of guides on how to tune the gears for a bike, and spent a good chunk of my day tweaking and testing. It really isn't that hard, just requires a few common tools (allen key, phillips head) and some time. Basically the process is done to make sure that you can smoothly shift through your gears and that you arent getting any rattling from the chain rubbing against the derailleurs. Like I said, this was my first time tuning, and it took me maybe an hour. The bike now shifts perfectly, and makes little to no noise whatsoever :).
As always, ordering from Amazon was easy as pie, and highly recommended.
Perfect bike for anyone. July 22, 2010 Charles I purchased this bike last year. The first six months I had it, I probably rode 40 miles on it. Since April I have probably put over 250 miles on it. When I took it out of the box, I noticed there were no instructions to put it together. With a little mechanic ability and common sense it will take about 30 minutes to install and set up. I also went around the bike and made sure that all bolts were tight and nothing was broken before I rode it. The first thing I noticed was the pedals were not of a high caliber, they worked fine for 9 or so months until I replaced them with a better set. The second thing I noticed was after a few months of riding it on trails, the bolts on the stem started loosening up, with a little loc-tite they were fine until I replaced it with a 2 piece stem. I have also changed the handle bars, grips, seat and bar ends, they didnt need to be replaced but added more comfort. Other than that I have no complaints. It is my main bike and I ride it probably 12-50 miles a week now on trails here in Virginia Beach. It is a very smooth ride and shifts very smooth as well. I have been very happy with it and I bought my wife the Ranger MTB. It was a very good purchase as well, and she is happy with it. If you are not looking to buy an expensive bike for trail riding, cruising the beach or commuting and are not to upset with replacing a few parts when they wear out, then this is a perfect bike. I recommend it to everyone. If you are looking for a race ready off road mountain bike, or one without issues, go to your local Performance bike shop and purchase one from them.
Good bike for the money July 11, 2010 D. Palmer Purchased this bike as a Father's Day gift. Did not want to spend a lot of money as was not sure the bike would be used all that much even though the husband swore he was committed to getting more exercise. He had mentioned features that he felt important. Researched the local stores and online outlets extensively and decided upon this one as most cost effective. The bike arrived in 2 days which was about 4 days too early as I had to hide it. Easy to assemble as most parts already together. Husband did spend a couple of hours tuning the gears. He is comfortable doing that but you will have to pay to have it done if you cannot do it on your own. There are instructions to help you. This model seemed to be only available in matte green and would have preferred another color choice. The color online did not represent the actual color - slightly different and was good my husband was not too picky about color. Overall a good deal for the money.
False Advertising? April 8, 2010 William E. Wickham (BLUE SPRINGS, MO, US) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I ordered this bike and when I opened the box and did an inspection, I noticed that the frame of the bike said STEEL tubing! This bike is listed as an aluminum frame! I am not sure if it was a mistake from the manufacturer or from Amazon, but I would check it out 1st before I buy.
